Our System 41 roller pollen screen for windows uses our finest available mesh — engineered to filter airborne pollen while still allowing fresh air to circulate freely. Custom made to your exact measurements in our UK factory, in the same slimline 41mm retractable cassette.
You're viewing our pollen screen option. All four mesh types share identical cassettes, profiles and fitting methods — select the one that matches your needs.
The UK pollen season runs from February through September. For the estimated 16 million hay fever sufferers in the UK, open windows during that period mean red eyes, blocked noses and constant sneezing. Our pollen screen uses our finest available mesh — engineered to filter airborne pollen particles while still allowing good airflow through an open window.
Our pollen mesh uses a tighter weave than our standard fly screen mesh — engineered to intercept fine pollen particles that the standard mesh would allow through, while still permitting good air circulation.
Integral brush pile strips line both side channels and the closing bar — sealing the full perimeter to prevent pollen entering around the edges of the mesh, not just through it.
The 41mm spring-loaded cassette keeps the mesh rolled away and protected when not in use. Deploy it during pollen season — retract it completely for the rest of the year. No dismantling, no storage.
Every screen is hand-built in our UK factory to your exact measurements — no trimming required. A precise fit means no gaps at the edges through which pollen could bypass the mesh entirely.
Entirely spring-operated with no cords or hanging chains. Pull the handle bar down to deploy, tilt to retract. Compliant with child safety regulations and straightforward for the whole household to use.
The pollen mesh is still an insect-proof weave — it blocks flies, wasps, spiders and common UK insects as effectively as our standard screen. You don't have to choose between pollen filtration and insect protection.
Most customers fit their roller pollen screen in under an hour. Here's how it works.
Need pollen protection for a door as well as your windows? The same cassette and pollen-filtering mesh are available for single and double door apertures. Note: the no-drill fixing option is not available with pollen mesh — screw fix is required for all pollen screen configurations.
The UK pollen season runs from February through September — starting with tree pollen, moving into the peak grass pollen months of May through August, and finishing with weed pollen through to early autumn. For the estimated 16 million hay fever sufferers in the UK, open windows during these months are a problem rather than a relief. Our roller pollen screen for windows is designed to let you ventilate your home freely during these months, by significantly reducing the quantity of airborne pollen passing through the window opening.
Our pollen screen uses a finer mesh weave than our standard fly screen. The tighter construction intercepts fine airborne pollen particles that would pass freely through a standard insect mesh. The mesh still allows adequate airflow — you can ventilate your home comfortably — while substantially reducing pollen ingress through the window. It also retains full insect-blocking properties, so flies, wasps and other common UK insects are excluded at the same time.
The brush pile strips integrated into both side channels and the closing bar create a complete perimeter seal around the deployed mesh. This means pollen cannot bypass the mesh through the gap between the screen edge and the window frame — a detail that matters particularly for fine particles like pollen.
A pollen screen significantly reduces the amount of airborne pollen entering through a window. It does not eliminate pollen entirely from your home. Pollen can still enter through other openings — doors, gaps, other windows. A pollen screen is a meaningful reduction measure, not a pollen-proof barrier.
For hay fever sufferers, reducing the volume of pollen entering through open windows can make a real difference to day-to-day comfort during peak season. Combined with other measures, it forms part of a practical approach to managing indoor pollen levels.
The pollen mesh is housed in the same slimline 41mm spring-loaded cassette as our full fly screen range. When the window is open during pollen season, deploy the screen using the colour-coded handles on the sliding bar — the mesh runs between 30×22mm side guide rails and pulls closed to the window sill. When you're not in pollen season, or when your window is closed, the mesh retracts completely. No dismantling, no seasonal storage.
Our pollen mesh is available across the full System 41 range, all made to measure:
All use identical cassettes, profiles and fixing hardware. The only differences are the dimensions and fixing method.
Download our Measuring Guide (PDF) and Installation Guide (PDF) before your order arrives. Installation requires only a drill and screwdriver, and most customers complete fitting in under an hour. Once installed, pull the mesh down using the handle bar — it locks into catches in the side channels. Tilt the bar to retract. All screens above 400mm wide include our internal braking mechanism to slow the recoil. Browse our full range of roller fly screens to find the right mesh for every opening.

A pull-down screen is a type of retractable screen that can be mounted on a window or door frame. In the case of a window, the screen is housed in a cassette at the top of the frame and can be pulled down manually to cover the opening. For doors, the cassette is usually situated at the side, and pulled across. When not in use, the screen can be retracted back into the cassette, providing an unobstructed view. When pulled down (or across), the screen is held in place with a locking mechanism, usually a magnet or latch, and can be released with a simple touch to retract the screen.
Yes, you can have fly screen nets and blinds for solar protection and decoration together. Insect net curtains or blinds can be used as a protective layer for windows and can be paired with other types of window treatments such as roller blinds or curtains for additional privacy and light control. Usually one of the solutions would be fitted in the recess or against the window opening, leaving space for the other solution to be positioned further forward in the recess or outside of the recess.
Yes, net blinds are made from a fine mesh material that allows light and air to filter through while still providing privacy and protection against insects. However, the level of privacy depends on the thickness, colour and tightness of the mesh weave. For example, white mesh actually more visible than traditional grey mesh, and thus provides more of a visual barrier. There are different grades of mesh depending on what you wish to keep out - standard fly screen mesh is least visible and provides the best view out, whilst anti-pollen and anti midge nettings are both tighter weave, and made of thicker fibres in the case of midge netting, therefore the view out is slightly less.
A retractable fly screen is similar to a roller blind. Instead of decorative or shading fabric, fly screen mesh is used and rolls onto the tube, which is contained in an aluminium cassette. The blind itself is spring-loaded, and operated using a handle on the hem bar. For a window configuration, the screen runs in side channels, left and right and is pulled down to the window sill which creates the 4th side of the frame. When not in use, the mesh screen rolls away out of sight into the cassette. The cassette and side channels are slim-line and discrete in appearance so the screen is not visually obtrusive when in use or when rolled away.
Retractable screen doors feature a spring loaded roller cassette on one side of the door into which the mesh rolls up out of the way. The screen is pulled across using a sliding bar, running in top and bottom rails, and latches into a magnetic profile. Sliding screen doors are flat framed screens containing mesh which slides in top and bottom channels. Of the two types of screens retractable screens are more discrete and tend to be long lasting.
Since the mesh of the fly screen is retracted when it is not in use, the mesh fabric is protected the majority of the year from UV radiation, dirt, and weather elements. As a result, retractable screens will outlast ordinary flat framed screens by a large margin. In the winter, there is no need to remove and store the screens. We have customers that are still using their retractable roller fly screens 10 to 15 years after they were purchased. Although life span will of course depend on usage and fair treatment.
In comparison to other types of fly screens, such as framed window fly screens, velcro mesh screens, mesh panel screens and hinged door fly screens, retractable fly screens is an excellent solution. The main benefit of retractable fly screens is that when the window or door is not open, the mesh screen itself rolls away onto the tube that is concealed in the cassette. Because of course, your door is closed the majority of the time, especially out of the summer months, the screen is rolled away the majority of the time protecting it from damage and build up of dirt and grime. Screens that are permanently in place and have the mesh exposed 365 days per year are at greater risk of damage, both to the frames and to the mesh itself.
Traditional roller blinds are not designed to serve as fly screens. However, our Roller Fly Screens are an excellent solution for keeping insects out while allowing fresh air to circulate. These screens use a roller mechanism similar to a roller blind but feature a fly screen mesh housed in a slim-line cassette. They are easy to install and run within side channels, ensuring a secure fit that prevents insects from entering through the window. When not in use, the mesh can be retracted into the cassette for cleanliness and protection, making them a practical and unobtrusive choice.

Roller Pet Screen for Windows and Child Safety
Child Safe By Design - Handle on Bottom Bar: Roller Pet Screen for Windows can be operated using discrete handle on the bottom rail. We call this ‘child safe by design’ as there are no looped cords or chains to operate the blind.
About Child Safety
At newblinds.co.uk, child safety is of paramount importance. If left hanging freely, chains and cords from blinds can pose a direct threat to children. For this reason, we are working towards all of our products being cord-less or chain-free and therefore “safe by design”.
Where it is not yet feasible to supply a product that is “safe by design”, we ensure that the product is fully compliant with Child Safety legislation. Not only do we ensure that, where necessary, our products are supplied/fitted with child safety cleats/devices, but we also supply, free of charge, these items to our previous customers.
