Our System 41 roller pet screen for windows uses the same standard insect-proof mesh as our fly screen — but in a significantly heavier, claw-resistant fibreglass gauge. Custom made to your exact measurements in our UK factory. The same slimline 41mm cassette hides the mesh completely when not in use.

You're viewing our pet mesh option. All four mesh types share identical cassettes, profiles and fitting methods — select the one that matches your needs.
Standard fly screen mesh tears easily when cats scratch or dogs push against it. Our pet mesh uses the same insect-proof weave but in a heavier, more resilient fibreglass gauge — built to take the contact that comes with living with animals.
Our pet mesh uses the same 18×16 insect-proof fibreglass weave as our standard fly screen — blocking the same insects — but with significantly thicker fibres that are more resistant to claw contact and abrasion.
Integral brush pile strips line both side channels and the closing bar — sealing the full perimeter so insects can't enter around the mesh edges, even if a pet pushes against the screen.
Without a brake, a spring-loaded screen snaps back hard when released — trapping fingers and stressing the mesh join. Our braking mechanism slows the recoil on all screens over 400mm wide. Smooth and quiet, every time. Included as standard.
Our 30mm side channels sit discreetly against your window frame. The screen locks via catches concealed inside the channels — no external clips protruding from the frame, nothing to snap off. A clean, finished result.
The 41mm spring-loaded cassette keeps the mesh rolled away and protected when windows are closed. Deploy it when you need ventilation — retract it in winter. The mesh lasts longer out of the way.
Every screen is hand-built in our UK factory to your exact measurements — no trimming required. A precise fit also means no gaps at the edges where insects could enter, regardless of pet activity around the frame.
Entirely spring-operated with no cords or dangling chains. Pull the handle bar down to deploy, tilt to retract. Nothing for cats to bat at or dogs to catch themselves on.
If the mesh does eventually need replacing after years of pet contact, it can be renewed without replacing the aluminium cassette or frames — reducing the long-term cost of ownership significantly.
Most customers fit their roller pet screen in under an hour. Here's how it works.
Need pet-resistant protection for a door as well as your windows? The same cassette and heavy-gauge mesh are available for single and double door apertures. Note: the no-drill fixing option is not available with pet mesh.
Keep insects out. Keep the mesh intact.
Standard fly screen mesh isn't designed for households with cats or dogs. A single scratch from a determined cat, or a dog pushing its nose against the mesh on a warm day, can tear or deform a standard screen within a season. Our roller pet screen for windows uses the same System 41 retractable cassette as our full fly screen range — but with a significantly heavier fibreglass mesh gauge that handles the contact that comes with living with animals.
It's important to understand what "pet mesh" means: the weave count is the same as our standard insect-proof fly screen mesh (18×16 threads/inch), so it blocks the same insects — flies, wasps, spiders, mosquitoes and common UK bugs. What's different is the gauge of the individual fibres. The heavier construction makes the mesh considerably more resistant to deformation under claw pressure, repeated pushing and the general wear that pets inflict on standard screens. It won't tear as readily, and it holds its shape better over time.
One of the practical advantages of a retractable roller screen over a fixed frame screen is that the mesh is only exposed when you choose to deploy it. When windows are closed — overnight, or when you're out — the mesh rolls back into the 41mm cassette, protected from UV, dirt and any pet contact. A fixed screen is vulnerable all day, every day. Our System 41 is only in position when you want fresh air, which extends the working life of even a standard mesh considerably — and even more so with the heavier pet gauge.
A spring-loaded screen without a brake snaps back hard into the cassette when released — noisy, potentially dangerous, and damaging to the mesh and end caps over time. Our System 41 includes an internal braking mechanism on all screens over 400mm wide, slowing the recoil to a smooth, quiet return. Included as standard on every screen we make above that width.
Our 30mm side channels are designed to sit unobtrusively against your window frame. When the screen is deployed, it locks in place via catches housed inside the side channels — there are no external clips protruding forward of the frame, nothing to snap off over time, and nothing that looks makeshift. A screen that looks well-made when deployed and disappears when it isn't.
Our roller pet screen for windows uses the same System 41 cassette as our entire roller fly screen range. The spring-loaded cassette measures 41mm front-to-rear and 51mm top-to-bottom, sitting discreetly at the top of the window frame. Side guide channels are 30mm wide and 22mm deep. All profiles are powder-coated aluminium in White (RAL9010), Brown (RAL8014) or Anthracite Grey (RAL7016). When the mesh does eventually need renewal, it can be replaced independently without replacing the frames.
Our pet mesh is available for windows, single doors and double doors. All are made to measure in our UK factory. Note that the no-drill fixing option is not available with pet mesh — screw fix is required for all pet screen configurations.
This is a question we're often asked, and it's worth being straightforward about it. Our pet screen mesh is designed primarily to keep insects out — with the added benefit of being significantly more durable than standard mesh when pets make contact with it. Many of our customers do use it successfully to deter smaller cats and dogs from pushing at the screen, and find it holds up well to incidental contact over time.
However, pet screen is not a pet containment product. A determined or larger animal may still force or damage the mesh if they push hard enough against it. The System 41 roller mechanism also relies on the closing bar catching in the side channel catches — a dog that pushes the screen from the bottom could potentially dislodge it. If you need to be certain your pet stays inside, we'd always recommend using supplementary measures alongside the screen.

Download our Measuring Guide (PDF) and Installation Guide (PDF) before your order arrives. Installation requires only a drill and screwdriver and most customers complete fitting in under an hour. Pull the sliding bar down to deploy — it locks into the catches concealed within the side channels. Tilt to retract. All screens above 400mm wide include our internal braking system. A pull-down screen is a type of retractable screen that can be mounted on a window or door frame. In the case of a window, the screen is housed in a cassette at the top of the frame and can be pulled down manually to cover the opening. For doors, the cassette is usually situated at the side, and pulled across. When not in use, the screen can be retracted back into the cassette, providing an unobstructed view. When pulled down (or across), the screen is held in place with a locking mechanism, usually a magnet or latch, and can be released with a simple touch to retract the screen.
Yes, you can have fly screen nets and blinds for solar protection and decoration together. Insect net curtains or blinds can be used as a protective layer for windows and can be paired with other types of window treatments such as roller blinds or curtains for additional privacy and light control. Usually one of the solutions would be fitted in the recess or against the window opening, leaving space for the other solution to be positioned further forward in the recess or outside of the recess.
Yes, net blinds are made from a fine mesh material that allows light and air to filter through while still providing privacy and protection against insects. However, the level of privacy depends on the thickness, colour and tightness of the mesh weave. For example, white mesh actually more visible than traditional grey mesh, and thus provides more of a visual barrier. There are different grades of mesh depending on what you wish to keep out - standard fly screen mesh is least visible and provides the best view out, whilst anti-pollen and anti midge nettings are both tighter weave, and made of thicker fibres in the case of midge netting, therefore the view out is slightly less.
A retractable fly screen is similar to a roller blind. Instead of decorative or shading fabric, fly screen mesh is used and rolls onto the tube, which is contained in an aluminium cassette. The blind itself is spring-loaded, and operated using a handle on the hem bar. For a window configuration, the screen runs in side channels, left and right and is pulled down to the window sill which creates the 4th side of the frame. When not in use, the mesh screen rolls away out of sight into the cassette. The cassette and side channels are slim-line and discrete in appearance so the screen is not visually obtrusive when in use or when rolled away.
Retractable screen doors feature a spring loaded roller cassette on one side of the door into which the mesh rolls up out of the way. The screen is pulled across using a sliding bar, running in top and bottom rails, and latches into a magnetic profile. Sliding screen doors are flat framed screens containing mesh which slides in top and bottom channels. Of the two types of screens retractable screens are more discrete and tend to be long lasting.
Since the mesh of the fly screen is retracted when it is not in use, the mesh fabric is protected the majority of the year from UV radiation, dirt, and weather elements. As a result, retractable screens will outlast ordinary flat framed screens by a large margin. In the winter, there is no need to remove and store the screens. We have customers that are still using their retractable roller fly screens 10 to 15 years after they were purchased. Although life span will of course depend on usage and fair treatment.
In comparison to other types of fly screens, such as framed window fly screens, velcro mesh screens, mesh panel screens and hinged door fly screens, retractable fly screens is an excellent solution. The main benefit of retractable fly screens is that when the window or door is not open, the mesh screen itself rolls away onto the tube that is concealed in the cassette. Because of course, your door is closed the majority of the time, especially out of the summer months, the screen is rolled away the majority of the time protecting it from damage and build up of dirt and grime. Screens that are permanently in place and have the mesh exposed 365 days per year are at greater risk of damage, both to the frames and to the mesh itself.
Traditional roller blinds are not designed to serve as fly screens. However, our Roller Fly Screens are an excellent solution for keeping insects out while allowing fresh air to circulate. These screens use a roller mechanism similar to a roller blind but feature a fly screen mesh housed in a slim-line cassette. They are easy to install and run within side channels, ensuring a secure fit that prevents insects from entering through the window. When not in use, the mesh can be retracted into the cassette for cleanliness and protection, making them a practical and unobtrusive choice.

Roller Pet Screen for Windows and Child Safety
Child Safe By Design - Handle on Bottom Bar: Roller Pet Screen for Windows can be operated using discrete handle on the bottom rail. We call this ‘child safe by design’ as there are no looped cords or chains to operate the blind.
About Child Safety
At newblinds.co.uk, child safety is of paramount importance. If left hanging freely, chains and cords from blinds can pose a direct threat to children. For this reason, we are working towards all of our products being cord-less or chain-free and therefore “safe by design”.
Where it is not yet feasible to supply a product that is “safe by design”, we ensure that the product is fully compliant with Child Safety legislation. Not only do we ensure that, where necessary, our products are supplied/fitted with child safety cleats/devices, but we also supply, free of charge, these items to our previous customers.
