Frequently Asked Questions about Vision Blinds

Can you see through vision blinds at night?

No, when the stripes of the vision blind are positioned so that the blind is closed and there is effectively a solid sheet of opaque fabric at the window, then it is not possible to see through vision blinds from the inside or the outside. Depending on the opacity of the fabric, it may be possible to see a faint silhouette in certain lighting conditions.

How do you clean vision blinds?

When cleaning vision blinds, you should always consult the care instructions of the fabric manufacturer. As a guide, wipe the inner and outer layers of the blind fabric with a moist soft cloth. Use nothing but water if possible, but if you must, a very light detergent solution that is safe for delicate fabrics like silk and wool can be used instead. However, as mentioned for exact instructions for your specific fabric, please consult the manufacturer’s care instructions.

    What are vision roller blinds?

Vision Blinds, also known as Twist Blinds or Day & Night Blinds, are a modern take on the classic roller blind, combining the variable privacy and light control of Venetian blinds. Rather than consisting of a single sheet of fabric, like a roller blind, the vision blind features a loop of cloth. Vision fabric consists of alternating opaque and transparent horizontal stripes. One end of the fabric is fixed to the open cassette at the top of the blind, the fabric drops to the hem bar, and then loops back up to the inside of the cassette, where the fabric is fixed to the roller tube. This creates a double layer of fabric.

As the roller tube is turned by the chain mechanism or motor, that end of the fabric rolls onto the roller tube, raising or lowering the fabric of the blind and the hem bar. As the blind is raised or lowered the horizontal opaque and transparent stripes on the rear layer of fabric pass those on the front layer of fabric. It is possible to align the stripes, so that the rear transparent stripe, sits behind the front transparent stripe, allowing light in and a view out. Or so that the rear opaque stripe sits behind the front transparent stripe, effectively forming a barrier to light, and also providing privacy. They can also be fully raised or lowered. Or they can be partially raised. Vision blinds can be operated with a manual chain or they can be motorised.

    Can vision blinds be blackout?

A vision blind is made up of a double layer of fabric. The fabric consists of alternating transparent and opaque horizontal stripes. It’s possible to align the stripes on the rear and the stripes on the front face, to form a continuous opaque layer, which serves to provide privacy and light control. Depending on your choice of vision fabrics, the opaque stripes of the fabric may or may not be a blackout. However even if the opaque stripe itself consists of blackout fabric, it’s important to remember that light may seep between the opaque stripes and around the edges of the blind itself. As such, depending on how vital it is to totally exclude light from your room, another blind type may be better suited to your needs.

What are the benefits of day and night blinds?

When it comes to regulating natural light and maintaining personal privacy, Day & Night blinds are hard to beat. These chic blinds' with contrasting transparent and opaque fabric horizontal stripes can be easily aligned. They give the option of a solid opaque colour for total privacy and light control. Alternatively, they can allow a view out with diffused natural light.

How long do Zebra blinds last?

With proper care, Zebra blinds can last for many years. We would advise particular care is taken to avoid damage to the edges of the fabric, particularly the transparent stripes as this is made up of a very open weave mesh-like fabric which is more fragile than standard roller blind fabric and can be damaged by friction, collision and (speaking from personal experience) pets!  Zebra blinds are a stylish addition to any home because of their unique pattern. The advantages are numerous, and the cost is minimal.

Are Zebra Blinds hard to keep clean?

Because zebra blinds consist of flat vertical fabric, it is difficult for dust or debris to gather on the fabric itself. The only potential area of build-up of dust is at the bottom of the loop of the fabric. Any dust gathering here can be removed with the gentle use of a hoover nozzle, carefully parting the two layers of fabric and cleaning between them. If your vision blinds happen to get splashed with dirt or any other substance, we’d suggest consulting the manufacturer’s care instructions. Generally speaking, the fabric can be cleaned carefully with a damp cloth and a weak mix of water and detergent, but please consult those instructions. Because of their excellent design and simplicity, treated with care, Zebra blinds will retain their quality and colour for a very long time.

Are zebra blinds good for bedrooms?

Zebra blinds can be a good choice for bedrooms. However, more often they are used as a supplementary decorative or privacy shade, where roman blinds or curtains are also in place, fitted around the recess, with Zebra blinds mounted within the recess behind. Although the opaque stripe of a Zebra blind is available as a blackout fabric, the remaining stripes are transparent, and even when in the closed position, some light ingress can be expected in between the opaque stripes and around the edges of the blind. Romans and curtains installed room-side of vision blinds can provide great light exclusion and a superb warm aesthetic.

How do electric day and night blinds work?

Electric day and night blinds are powered by a motor that allows you to control the blinds with a remote control, smartphone app, or by voice command. The motorised system allows you to adjust the blinds and their opaque and transparent fabric bands to allow different levels of light and privacy, making them a convenient and practical solution for any room.

What are the benefits of electric day and night blinds?

Electric day and night blinds offer benefits, including convenience and added security via privacy and simulated occupancy. They can be controlled remotely, allowing you to adjust the blinds from the comfort of your sofa, bed or even when you're away from home. When linked with a home hub system such as Louvolite OneTouch Hub or SOMFY TaHoMa, you can schedule timed operation can which enhances your home security by giving the appearance that someone is home even when you're away. Home hubs can also be integrated with Alexa or Google Home allowing you to control your blinds by voice. They can also enhance the energy efficiency of your home, helping to regulate the temperature in your home and reduce your energy bills.

How do UPVC window clips work with vision blinds?

UPVC window clips are used to hold Perfect Fit Vision blinds in place. They are typically made from metal and are attached to the window frame, sliding between the glass and the window beading. The blinds then mount onto the clips and can be easily removed when needed. UPVC window clips are a convenient way to install Perect Fit style vision blinds. Ordinary Vision blinds are installed using screw fit brackets into or around the window recess.

What makes Vision Blinds unique compared to other blind options?

Vision Blinds are unique due to their innovative light control system. This system allows you to control the amount of light that enters your room. The alternating stripes of fabric allow an open and closed effect, allowing for privacy when required. While other blinds, such as the electric honeycomb blinds, also offer great light control, Vision Blinds provide a uniquely stylish and contemporary feel that suits any room. Plus, they are available in a wide range of colours and finishes, ensuring they will complement your existing décor.
