My Sizes Are..

When providing your measurements, you can provide either 'recess size', 'blind size' or 'fabric size'.
Exact/Blind Size: By providing exact/blind sizes, you are asking us to make the blind to these sizes, without making any deductions. Please note that for width measurements, exact blind size includes the chain drive, idle end and both brackets. The exact/blind size width measurement will always be 35mm more than the width of the fabric.
Recess Size: When you provide recess sizes, for most blind types, we would make a small deduction to allow for the blind to fit perfectly within the recess. HOWEVER, for standard roller blinds, no deduction is made. This is because the standard roller blind system has a collapsible idle end, which allows some flexibility in width. The recess size width measurement will always be 35mm more than the width of the fabric.
Fabric Size: If you would like your fabric to be a specific size, then select fabric size. We will make the fabric width at exactly the size submitted. For the height, we will make at this size, plus an additional amount of fabric to wrap around the roller tube. Please note that the chain drive, idle end and brackets will add an additional 35mm onto the overall width of the blind.
For a full explanation of how to take your sizes, please download our Measuring Guide (PDF).

Operation Side

Your blind will be operated by a continuous loop of chain of 1 metre in length, which should be held taut using a child safety device (transparent p-clip) which should be fixed to the adjacent wall.
We can position the operating chain on either the left or right hand side of the blind. Consider when selecting which side is most easily accessible.

Fabric Rolls From

You can choose to have your blind fabric rolling from either:
Window Side of the Roller Tube: This is standard. Also, where the blind is face fixed around a recess minimises the gap between the fabric and the fixing surface.
Room Side of the Roller Tube: This is also known as "reverse roll". This is a good option for where blinds are being installed within a recess which is not very deep and there is window furniture (such as window handles) protruding into the space allowed.

Child Safety

Standard Roller Blinds and Child Safety

  • Child Safe - Continuous Loop Chain with Child Safety Anchor: This product can be operated with a continuous loop of chain (in plastic or metal) which is secured to the wall/fixing surface with a child safety anchor. In accordance with child safety legislation, the chain will be manufactured at 1 metre in length. Child safety devices have been fully tested in compliance with British safety standard EN13120. You will find details of how to install the devices in the installation instructions. Please contact our friendly customer service team if you need any further advice. Please note that beds, cots and other items of furniture should not be positioned next to operating chain, in order that the chain remain out of reach.

About Child Safety
At newblinds.co.uk, child safety is of paramount importance. If left hanging freely, chains and cords from blinds can pose a direct threat to children. For this reason, we are working towards all of our products being cord-less or chain-free and therefore “safe by design”.
Where it is not yet feasible to supply a product that is “safe by design”, we ensure that the product is fully compliant with Child Safety legislation. Not only do we ensure that, where necessary, our products are supplied/fitted with child safety cleats/devices, but we also
supply, free of charge, these items to our previous customers.
