We're being asked rather a lot at the moment if it's possible to control our blinds using Smartthings by Samsung. Smartthings is a low(ish) cost home control system that is possible to configure yourself to control a number of compatible devices within the home. It is exclusively distributed through Amazon and Currys/PC World. It uses z-wave technology, but doesn't appear to support a great number of other products "out of the box". Therein lies the problem!

As part of our website relaunch, we have recently refreshed the electric blinds section of our website. We have a fantastic range of automated shading. All remote blinds are easy to operate and are available to buy online at great prices. We have a large number of fabrics in our electric blinds section. However, these are not the only fabrics that we can offer. More fabrics from the Louvolite collection will be added to the website over the coming months. We can also offer fabrics from brands such as MERMET, Eclipse, Fabric Box, Colourama and many others. If you are working with an interior designer on your automation or refurbishment project and they have chosen a fabric that you can't see, please let us know and we'll provide a price based on this fabric.

Up until recently, smart home automation systems have always been expensive. However, times are now changing according to an article by nextmarket. The article states that ‘Do it yourself’ home automation systems are now becoming more common in homes. The US market alone for DIY systems and components will grow to $79m by 2019. This growth is being stimulated by introduction of new lower cost easily accessible technologies. Systems and their components can easily be purchased, installed and controlled by the home owner, at relatively low cost, making it more appealing to gadget loving home owners who previously found such technologies out of reach.
