Please review our full measuring instructions here.
Recess Size: We recommend that you select recess size if you are installing your blinds within a recess and wish for us to made a "manufacturer's deduction" to allow the blind to fit within that recess. Blinds ordered as “ Recess Size “ will have a deduction of 15mm for fitting made as standard.
Blind Size: If you wish to make your own allowance or if you are fitting outside of the recess, we recommend that you select blind size. We will make no deductions.
Please note: Blinds are custom finished to your given sizes, to the nearest practical tolerance. Width tolerance +/- 5mm. Height tolerance is the nearest string pitch + 1 extra slat.

Control Side

Operation of wooden venetian blinds is by cords, positioned as follows:
- Left hand of the blind headrail: A set of control cords to tilt the slats.
- Right hand of the blind headrail: A set of cords to raise and lower the blinds.
It is not possible to change the position of these control cords.
Blinds will be supplied with child safety cleat. These should be fixed on the recess or wall next to the blind, so that the control cords can be gathered around the cleats, no less than 1.5m from floor level.

Valance Returns

Wooden Blinds have a metal headrail. A valance matching the slats is supplied as standard and this is afixed to the front of the headrail, to cover it.
We can also supply "valance returns". You should choose to receive these if you are not fixing your blind within a recess - for example if you are face fixing the blind to the wall around the recess.
The valance returns, are small sections of valance which cover the ends of the headrail, so that the metal work is not exposed.
If you select not to receive valance returns, then you will receive only wooden valance to cover the front of the headrail, and this will be cut slightly longer than the width of the hedrail. You can either trim this, or leave it slightly wider than the blind.

Child Safety

Child Safety and Wooden Venetian Blinds

Wooden Venetian blinds are raised, lowered and tilted using control cords. When blinds are fully lowered, this cord will be manufactured to be no longer than 1 metre. This ensures that they are out of reach of small children.

You will also receive 1 or 2 child safety cleat which should be installed no more than 1.5m from floor level and should be used to retain any excess cord.

Safety devices have been fully tested in compliance with British safety standard EN13120. You will find details of how to install the devices in the installation instructions. Please contact our friendly customer service team if you need any further advice.

Please note that beds, cots and other items of furniture should not be positioned next to operating cords, in order that the cords remain out of reach.

About Child Safety

At newblinds.co.uk, child safety is of paramount importance. If left hanging freely, chains and cords from blinds can pose a direct threat to children. For this reason, we are working towards all of our products being cord-less or chain-free and therefore “safe by design”.

Where it is not yet feasible to supply a product that is “safe by design”, we ensure that the product is fully compliant with Child Safety legislation. Not only do we ensure that, where necessary, our products are supplied/fitted with child safety cleats/devices, but we also
supply, free of charge, these items to our previous customers.
