Frequently Asked Questions about Voile Blinds

What is a voile blind?

Voile blinds are made using sheer fabrics that are designed to maximise natural light while offering a small amount of privacy. Voile fabric, which is a fine, open-weave polyester material, is used to make these blinds, which are often known as net or screen blinds. They tend to be solid colours or patterned designs; either way, the light will pass through them.

Can you see through voile blinds?

See-through window coverings include sheer and voile roller blinds. Voile blinds are often called see-through blinds because the fabric is woven with a translucent material that let's light through but keeps prying eyes out. During the day, the room occupant will benefit from a degree of view out through the fabric, depending on light conditions, and of course, the composition of the exact fabric chosen. At night time, with lights on in the building, it may be possible to see through the fabric, again depending on the exact lighting conditions and fabric composition.

Do voile roman blinds block sunlight?

Voile roman blinds are made of relatively transparent fabric that shields your room from the worst of the heat and glare without obstructing natural light. They allow privacy during the daytime. This makes them a good option for areas on the ground floor that face the street, such as the living room and dining area.

How do you clean voile blinds?

To clean your voile blind without taking it off the window, simply roll it down all the way and use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum to gently remove dust and dirt. If the fabric is soiled with dirt or stains that cannot be removed simply with a hoover nozzle, then please refer to the fabric manufacturer's cleaning instructions. Often a damp cloth and mild detergent can be used to wipe the fabric down, from top to bottom, for a more thorough cleaning. The dos and don’ts will be explained in the care instructions.

Can you see through voile blinds from outside?

Voile blinds allow some light through but not all of it. Intentionally made to let some light in. Closed blinds can offer seclusion during the daytime because the fabric acts as a veil over your window. Whether it’s possible to see through voile blinds from the outside depends on what is known as light balance. If there are higher light levels inside the building than outside, then outsiders are more likely to be able to see inside - the higher the contrast of light levels the more will be visible. For example, at night time when it is very dark outside, if bright artificial lighting is used inside, especially in close proximity to the window, then the fabric will appear more transparent. It is for this reason that voile (or sheer blinds as they are otherwise known) are often combined with a secondary blind with either privacy or blackout fabric. As an example, a voile roller blind within the recess can be combined with a blackout roman blind fitted outside of the recess. Or double roller blinds combining a sheer roller blind with a blackout roller blind is a popular choice.

How do I fit roller blinds to UPVC windows?

Roller blinds can be fitted to UPVC windows using a variety of methods, including Drilling into the top of the recess or to the face of the wall around the recess frame. If you do not want to drill, you can opt for a no-drill option using clip fix brackets, such as Perfect Fit of INTU. These no-drill solutions clip directly to the window frame against the glass.

Where can I buy perfect-fit blinds in the UK?

There are many places where you can buy perfect-fit blinds in the UK. You can find them at most major blind retailers, as well as online. When choosing perfect-fit blinds, it is important to measure your glass size accurately so that you can order blinds that will fit perfectly.

Should I get shutters or blinds?

The decision of whether to get shutters or blinds depends on your individual needs and preferences. Shutters are a classic window treatment that can add style and sophistication to your home. They can also provide privacy. However, shutters can be more expensive than blinds, and they can be more difficult to install. Blinds are a more affordable option than shutters, and they are easier to install. Blinds can also be more versatile than shutters, as they come in a wider variety of styles and materials.

Are there no drill roller blinds available for voile blinds?

Yes, there are no drill roller blinds available as voile blinds. Perfect Fit Roller blinds feature a range of voile fabrics. These blinds are installed using brackets which slide under the beading of your window frame, so there is no need to drill any holes. Voile blinds are a type of sheer blind that is made from a lightweight fabric. They are often used in bedrooms and living rooms to let in natural light while still providing privacy.

Can I buy roof lantern voile blinds?

No there is not a sheer version available but we have dim-out fabrics these will not black out the room making it dark but will filter the light through.
