Bracket Covers

STRONG Extra Large Electric Roller Blinds are available with bracket covers which encapsulate the stainless steel brackets.

Bracket covers are available in white, black or grey and are ideal for when the brackets are on display - for example, if you are installing outside of the recess.
If you are installing in a recess or within a ceiling pocket, then you may decide that bracket covers are not necessary.If you choose to have bracket covers, when entering your sizes, if you select:
Blind Size: Then the width will be taken as outside of bracket cover to outside of bracket cover.
Recess Size: Then we'll manufacture the blind so that brackets including bracket covers will fit snugly within the recess.
It is important to note that bracket covers add an extra 1.5mm to each side of the brackets. Therefore, if you are installing in the recess and choose to have bracket covers, then the gap between your fabric and the recess wall will be just that little bit larger.

Bracket covers are available in a choice of 3 colours - white, black or grey, allowing you to coordinate with your fabric selection or surrounding decor.

Operation

STRONG Extra-Large Electric Roller Blinds are available with a choice of 3 types of motors:
Radio Operated Motors: 230vAC radio operated motors, require mains power meaning each blind is usually wired back to a switched fused spur. Radio operated motors offer simple wireless control using a handset or wireless wall switch. Depending on which model of radio operated motor you select, it may also be possible to control your blind using a mobile app, by voice using Alexa or wirelessly from a smart home system. 
Relay Operated Motors: 230vAC relay operated motors are mains powered motors, which instead are being wired directly back to power, are instead usually connected to a relay, which provides control of the blind. Typically, you might select a relay operated motor if you are integrating your blinds with a smart home system such as Fibaro, Lightwave RF, Crestron, RAKO or a building management system (BMS).
Intelligent Motors are mains powered motors which are controlled by wire, usually by smart home systems which can out RS232/RS485. They can also be controlled by KNX or LON based building management system (BMS). Intelligent motors offer a higher degree of intelligent operation than relay operated motors - with features such as precision % based positioning; hem bar alignment with adjacent blinds at stop; more accurate alignment of hem bar in travel. 

Radio Motor

STRONG Extra-Large Electric Roller Blinds are available with a choice of radio operated motors:
Newblinds - 230vAC Quiet Radio: This is a mains powered, radio operated motor sourced by newblinds.co.uk as a low-cost alternative to big-brand motors. Although it is low cost, it is remarkably rich in features offering 6 intermediate stop positions in addition to an upper and lower limit. This motor can be controlled using a selection of handsets and wireless switches.
Somfy - 230vAC Quiet RTS Radio (2-core): A quiet mains powered motor by Somfy, the Sonesse 40 RTS. Using Somfy's secure radio protocol, in addition to control by handset and wireless wall switch, this motor can also be controlled using one of Somfy's smart home / app control hubs - Connexoon and TaHoMa, the latter offering voice activation via Amazon Alexa. This motor can also be integrated with and controlled wirelessly from a 3rd party smart home system using a bridge device such as a Dry Contract RTS transmitter of RS485 RTS transmitter.

Relay Motor

There are a number of 230v relay operated motors to choose from when you purchase a STRONG electric roller blind:
Newblinds - Quiet Relay (4-core): This is a 230vAC relay operated motor sourced by newblinds.co.uk as a low-cost alternative to big-brand motors. Although it is low cost, it is reliable and quiet. Upper and lower limits are set mechanically at the motor head. Its 4-core cable can be wired back to a controlling relay. It is important as with all mechanical relay operated motors that multiple blind motors are not cabled back to a single relay.
Vestamatic - 230vAC Quiet Mechnical Relay (4-core): This is a 230vAC relay operated motor by Vestamatic, with Quiet operation. Upper and lower limits are set mechanically at the motor head. Its 4-core cable can be wired back to a controlling relay. It is important as with all mechanical relay operated motors that multiple blind motors are not cabled back to a single relay.
Vestamatic - 230vAC Quiet Digital Relay (4-core): This is a 230vAC digital relay operated motor by Vestamatic, with Quiet operation. Upper and lower limits are set digitally and do do this you will need a digital setting tool. The ability to set limits digitally using a setting tool is a real time-saver, and should be considered by those who are installing a larger number of blinds, either on a single project or on an ongoing basis. The 4-core cable can be wired back to a controlling relay. Multiple motors can be wired back to a single relay for control as a group. The number of motors that can be powered by a single relay unit is dependent on the load supported by that relay.
Somfy - 230vAC Quiet Relay (3-Core): A Sonesse 40 WT motor is a 230vAC relay operated motor with mechanical limits and the quiet operation you would expect from a Somfy motor. Upper and lower limits are set mechanically at the motor head. The 3-core cable can be wired back to a controlling relay. It is important as with all mechanical relay operated motors that multiple blind motors are not cabled back to a single relay unit.

Intelligent Motor

230vAC Quiet Digital SMI Motor
SMI motors are intelligent, quiet, mains powered motors which are controlled by wire. They are compatible with any smart home systems which can output RS485. SMI motors can also be controlled by KNX or LON based building management system (BMS). Whether you will be controlling by KNX, LON, or RS-485, you will need an SMI interface, which can be selected below. Each interface can power and control multiple blinds. Cabling is simplified as a single 5-core cable is run from the SMI interface to each blind motor in series. This 5-core cable provides both power and bi-directional communication. Cabling schematics are available on request. Importantly, despite a single interface and cable being used, each motor can be controlled individually. SMI Intelligent motors offer a higher degree of intelligent operation than simple "dumb" relay operated motors. Features include precision % based positioning; hem bar alignment between adjacent blinds at stop; more accurate alignment of hem bar in travel. 

Operation Side

The motor and its cable can be position either at the left or right hand side of the blind.

Fabric Rolls From

You can choose to have your blind fabric rolling from either:
Window Side of the Roller Tube: This is standard and where the blind is face fixed around a recess minimises the gap between the fabric and the fixing surface.
Room Side of the Roller Tube: This is also known as "reverse roll". This is a good option for where blinds are being installed within a recess which is not very deep and there is window furniture (such as window handles) protruding into the space allowed.

Hem Bar

The hem bar provides a finishing touch to the bottom of the fabric of a roller blind. We have a number of fantastic options.
Fabric Covered Hem Bar: An oval bottom bar is provided and this is concealed by wrapping it in the roller blind fabric that you have selected. For thicker fabrics, we may only be able to cover the room-facing side of the bottom bar with fabric. Dimensions of the fabric covered hem bar are 15mm deep x30mm height

White Round Aluminium Hem Bar (above): A 23mm diameter aluminium bottom bar in white is provided. The fabric is securely attached to the hem bar, which is left exposed.
Black Round Aluminium Hem Bar (above): A 23mm diameter aluminium bottom bar in Black is provided. The fabric is securely attached to the hem bar, which is left exposed.
Silver Round Aluminium Hem Bar: A 23mm diameter aluminium bottom bar in brushed silver is provided. The fabric is securely attached to the hem bar, which is left exposed.

Handset

When a 'Newblinds - 230vAC Quiet Radio/RS485' is selected, there is a selection of handsets and wireless wall switches to choose from in order to control your blinds:
Handsets: 1, 6 or 16 channel
Wall Switches: 1, 2 or 5 channel
Each channel can control a single blind or more than one blind.

Somfy Control

When a 'Somfy - 230vAC Quiet RTS Radio' motor is selected, you have a selection of handsets and wireless wall switches to choose from:
1 Channel 'Situo' Wall Switch / Handset: A single channel transmitter with a detatchable flat rear casing. Remove the rear casing to mount this to your wall, and the  unit simple snaps into place as a permanent wall switch. If you prefer not to wall mount the unit, it can just as effectively be used as a handset. 
1 Channel 'Telis 1' Handset: A handset with a single channel.
Smoove Wireless Wall Switch: A square wireless wall switch with integrated frame, single channel.
4 Channel 'Telis 4' Handset: A handset with 4 channels.
6 Channel 'Telis 6 Chronis' Handset / Timer: A handset with 6 channels and an integrated programmable timer with digital interface.
16 Channel 'Telis 16' Handset: A handset with 16 channels and a digital interface. 
Each channel can control a single blind or more than one blind. So you may not need to purchase a controller with each blind. Where this is the case, then select 'No Remote Control'.
All handset sold via our website are from the PURE range meaning they are off white with grey trim.
Each handset / wall switch has an UP, DOWN and MY button. As part of the programming process, you will set upper and lower limits and an optional favourite 'MY' position. Press the UP or DOWN buttons to take the blind straight to its limit. The MY button can be used to take the blind to the favourite position, or to stop the blind mid-travel.

Somfy Smart Home

When a 'Somfy - 230vAC Quiet RTS Radio' motor is selected, you have a range of options for 'smart home' control. 
Connexoon App Control: Low cost app control of blinds and curtain rails. Control blinds from your mobile phone, tablet or PC with Somfy's Connexoon Blind Control System. Plugs into your home router to allow home control by Mobile/Tablet App and Web Interface. Controls any Somfy Radio (RTS) device (blinds, curtain rails, gates, plugs, garage doors and more). Controls Phillips Hue Lighting. Schedule Timed Events.
TaHoMa Smart Home with Alexa Link: Plugs into your home router to allow home control by Mobile/Tablet App and Web Interface. Controls any Somfy Radio (RTS) device (blinds, curtain rails, gates, plugs, garage doors and more). Controls Phillips Hue Lighting, I/O devices. Schedule Events and set up "What If" scenarios. Voice activation using Amazon Alexa devices. Configure events in TaHoMa based on triggers from the "Internet of Things" using IFTTT.
Dry Contact Transmitter (1 Channel): The Somfy Dry Contact RTS Transmitter is used to control blinds (and other Somfy RTS enabled devices) from any home or building control system or switch that is capable of outputting dry contact signals (a.k.a. volt free contacts). It is a single channel device which translates dry contact out put into Somfy RTS (Radio) signal in order to control a single blind or a single group of blinds. It's a great low cost way of controlling RTS enabled blinds from a control system when multi-channel (independent) control of multiple blinds is not required.
RS485 RTS Transmitter (16 Channel): The Somfy RS485 RTS Transmitter is used to control blinds (and other Somfy RTS enabled devices) from any home or building control system or switch that is capable of outputting RS485 control signals (or RS232 if an adaptor is used). It is a 16 channel device which translates RS485 out put into Somfy RTS (Radio) signal in order to control a 16 individual blinds or 16 groups of blinds. It's a great way of controlling RTS enabled products (blinds, curtain rails, gates, plugs, garage doors and more) from a Smart-home system. As it controls wirelessly, it is particularly useful where wired control cabling has not been implemented. In situations where no power has been implemented for blinds, it can also be used because Somfy have a great range of battery operated motors.
RS485 RTS Transmitter + Setting Tool: This option includes the 'RS485 RTS Transmitter' plus a RS485 demo kit, which is used to configure the transmitter. The 'RS485 demo kit' is a programming tool and can be re-used on future projects, if you are a smart homes custom installer.
Of course, under normal circumstances you will only require one of the above units per property. So if you have already added one to your order, or already have one installed at home, then simply select 'No Smart Home'.

Relay Control

Relay operated motors are usually controlled from a relay unit belonging to a smart home system or building management system. However, prior to the blinds being connected to the system in question, to prevent damage to the blind, it is vitally important that the motor upper and lower limits are set. We have two tools that enable this process and these are detailed below.
Both types of setting tools plug into mains power. As they are European devices, you will need a plug adaptor to enable them to be plugged into a UK 3-pin socket. Once plugged into the mains power, the other end of the setting tool is connected to the blind cable.
Setting Tool - Mechanical Motor: This simple device is for use with mechanical (non-digital) motors and consists of momentary up and down buttons that allow you to move the blinds to their desired upper and lower limits so that you can then set the motor limits at the head of the motor, usually using an allen key. It's important to use a setting tool during limit setting rather than controlling using the smart home system or BMS, because you need instant control of the blind, and you also need to be near the blind so that you can adjust it visually.
Setting Tool - Digital Motor: This devices is compatible with 'Vestamatic - 230vAC Quiet Digital Relay (4-core)' motor and is a real time-saver in comparison to programming mechanical motors. Simply use the setting tools up and down buttons to take the blind to its desired upper and lower limits and then press the 'upper limit' or 'lower limit' buttons on the setting tool to store these limits. We'd recommend the use of digital motors and this setting tools when programming a larger number of blinds or if you regularly professionally install relay operated blinds.
Of course, you only need one suitable setting tool for this and future projects, so if you already have one on your order or in your tool kit, then you can simply select 'no setting tool'.

SMI Control

When a '230vAC Quiet Digital SMI' motor is selected, you have a range of options for control to allow you to integrate your blinds with an existing Building Management System (BMS) or Smart Home System. 
RS485 SMI Interface 230vAC (16 motors): The RS485 SMI Interface can allow control of up to 16 x 230vAC SMI motors, using a smart home system or building management system (BMS). Your smart home or BMS must have the facility to output RS485. You can download below technical information including wiring schematics.

RS485 KNX Interface 230vAC (8 motors): The KNX SMI Interface can allow control and power of up to 8 x 230vAC SMI motors, using a smart home system or building management system (BMS). Your smart home or BMS must use KNX technology. You can download below technical information including wiring schematics. ETS files are available on request.

No Control: As described above, under normal circumstances you will only require one of the above units for multiple blind motors. So if you have already added one to your order, or already have one installed, then simply select 'No Control'.

SMI Setting Tool

When a '230vAC Quiet Digital SMI' motor is selected, you have the option to select a setting tool.

Setting Tool - SMI Motor: Prior to the blinds being connected to the system in question, the motor motor upper and lower limits need to be set. Our setting tool allows this. The setting tools plugs into mains power. As they are European devices, you will need a plug adaptor to enable them to be plugged into a UK 3-pin socket. Once plugged into the mains power, the other end of the setting tool is connected to the blind cable. Simply use the setting tools up and down buttons to take the blind to its desired upper and lower limits and then press the 'upper limit' or 'lower limit' buttons on the setting tool to store these limits. 

Of course, you only need one suitable setting tool for this and future projects, so if you already have one on your order or in your tool kit, then you can simply select 'no setting tool'.
